Turkey 2015

Valli di pietra. Chiese nascoste. Mongolfiere. La steppa e una megalopoli tra due continenti.

Ho visitato la Turchia nei primi giorni del 2015 in un viaggio di due settimane tra Cappadocia e Istanbul, guidando attraverso la steppa dell’Anatolia centrale e passando per le antiche città di Konya, Efeso e Pamukkale. Queste sono alcune delle fotografie che ho scattato in questa terra in cui anche i più duri contrasti (sia che si tratti di luce che di umanità) sembrano sempre avvolti da un’apparente armonia, dal sapore di una millenaria bellezza che toglie il fiato. Qui puoi perderti in valli sinuose, tra camini delle fate e cattedrali nascoste dentro alla roccia. Puoi volare in silenzio a bordo di una mongolfiera all’alba circondato da altre 100 mongolfiere. Puoi viaggiare per ore in strade immerse nella steppa ed immaginare cosa volesse dire attraversare queste terre in una carovana. Camminare al tramonto a piedi nudi su piscine termali di travertino circondato da centinaia di turisti. Restare a bocca aperta davanti ai colori delle volte delle moschee di Istanbul. Contare i minareti che si perdono nel bianco della neve. Così alti e leggeri da farti dimenticare per un secondo la differenza tra cielo e terra. E anche quella tra Cielo e Uomini.

I visited Turkey in the first days of 2015 in a 2 weeks travel from Cappadocia to Istanbul, driving through the cold steppe of Central Anatolia and the ancient cities of Konya, Ephesus and Pamukkale. These are just some of the pictures I took in this country where even the hardest contrasts (both light ones and human ones) always seems covered by an illusory harmony, an harmony with the taste of a thousands-year old breathtaking beauty. In this lands you can lose yourself in sinuous valleys, between fairy chimneys and hidden cathedrals carved in the rock. You can enjoy a silent flight in a hot air balloon at sunrise surrounded by one hundred other balloons. You can drive for hours in streets in the steppe and just imagine how it should be to cross these lands in a horse caravan. You can walk in bare feet at sunset in white thermal pools made of travertine surrounded by other tourists. You can be amazed by the colours of vaults of Istanbul mosques. Count the minarets barely visible in the white of a snowfall. The minarets: so light and high to make you forget for a second the difference between sky and land. And even between Heavens and Men.
